I think you are missing the sour mood of the general populace. Unless you are total right-winger these days, I, like many others are totally fed up with what's going on in Washington.
I dislike any politician who is beholden to a special interest group, and that includes Sen. Teddy Kennedy, who recently voted against a measure to approve promissing drugs which extended survival benefits in terminally ill cases. Kennedy probably acted in that manner because he is beholden to BP (big pharma) who contributed to his political campaign.
I dislike any pardons or commutations to any convicted felon, democrat or republican, with the exception of very terminal ill cases. Clinton was wrong to pardon Rich and many others.
The point here is that, generally speaking, only convicts with friends in high places get a break, and that is wrong IMO.
