I haven't done it yet either, but asked my broker about it. I'll deliver my cert and associated paperwork (debenture) to my broker. Their Operations dept will follow up. I don't know if anything happens "automatically" behind the scenes (I sort of doubt it), but my current understanding is that the broker will validate before they can be traded.
SRS, just got off the phone with my broker and she told me that a rule 144 form needs to be filed.This can bedone prior to the 12 month restriction ending. You can file the form yourself or have a broker do it for you. They will charge their usual commission for this. If you file yourself you will have to trade on line. (I think) The Hag
