There is a vast chasm between ambulance chasers and well respected corporate attorneys. Too frequently the perception of the former is mentally conveyed to the latter without DD. My experience with working with some of the more reputable firms (Hunton & Williams, LLP; McGuire, Woods, LLP; and Troutman Sander, LLP) is that they have a profound understanding of the weight of their reputation. I have witnessed them turning down potential clients who had more than a boat load of money because there was also a lingering smell that was sure to brush off on them. Billing hours to them is crucial but not at the expense of tarnishing their names and leadership roles in the legal profession and the community. There plenty of reputable firms (potential clients) without associating with some entity that smells like and acts like they are part of the Mafia.
