Yes, most options held to expiration expire worthless, but really, what is that saying? I would personally never hold options into expiration unless they were left worthless. If I made a profit on them, I would sell them before expiration. Few hold them through expiration so they can then hold a long/short position in the equity.
So what percentage of options are sold at a profit? Now that's a question!
