Revenue per fab space...
I was looking at this a few years ago, across the industry, and it looks to me like on average a company gets about $1B/year revenue per factory. I was looking at companies like STM, and TI. If we look at AMD, they have one uP factory producing about $2B/year in uP products, and another 3 or 4 flash factories producing another $2B/year (very rough numbers). I think Intel gets about $5B/CPU factory, and the industry average of about $1B/other factory.
Using these numbers, it does appear that you need 5 "commodity" factories to generate about the same revenue as one pentium factory. I wouldn't call it "brilliant", but more a fact of life.
