This is not what I wanted to hear. It explains why the guy on the radio was saying that the number of nuclear powered missions were going to dramatically increase. A mission to mars was the reason the Pentagon wanted to have the nuclear powered space ship. They say they will get there in half the time of a non nuclear ship.
Do you know anything about nuclear powered space stations that will orbit the earth? He mentioned that the pentagon also wanted high powered laser equipped Space stations and would need on board nuclear power to generate the energy for the laser. However I missed the last part of that segment. I was in a car full of Christmas shoppers and one of them stuck a 45 to my head and made me go shopping. I hate it when that happens. Since I did not hear the whole thing I was not sure if the laser equipped stations were more theoretical or serious like the Nuclear powered Mars mission. Wow! Nuclear power plants floating in the sky. That will make the world a safer place.
Can they pull it off? The Russians were first in space. Remember sputnik? They had the first man in space. After that we leap frogged ahead of them on manned missions. They beat us to EMP which was probably the most practical thing in terms of military use.
Is it us upping the ante on the Russians and Chinese on this Sabre rattling about the new space race? Or are they upping the ante on us?
