You do realize that is a 100% gain even if it goes to 0... Still a healthy gain. Same percentage gain if you short a $55 stock and it goes to 0.
And all stocks get shorted. You are correct it is hard for individuals in the U.S to short them because most brokers wont allow you to short OTCBB and stocks under $5. But market makers go short often and buy back the stock but this is on very short term trades, and they very rarely take long positions. Some off shore and canadian accounts do allow it.
