Guys, I also did a scan on my puter with 'AD-aware" after seeing this pop-up that Bruce is describing. I found a file that was described as more dangerous than the "data-miners" that "ad-aware" usually finds. The actual description was "possible browser hijack attempt" and I must admit that this may not have come from your link, Larry, but the timing was very suspect.
In edit-- I am behind a router and a rather good browser e-mail filter which may have saved me the same trouble that Bruce mentioned.

Thanks for the headsup! I am safe since I refuse to upgrade to MSFT's latest vulneribility level. I wonder if Larry is running a Linux machine or if he is as cheap as me and is running W98SE. <g>

Would a machine running windows 2000 be vulnerable also? I clicked on the link but saw no popups.

I have seen that Microsoft System Privacy Update popup at other sites, can't remember where. I never opened any of them.

Checked my system and registry entries, etc. but found nothing suspicious. Also checked trendmicro's site, updated my PCcillin pattern files, ran PCcillin, Ad-aware etc. (have Pop-Up Stopper constantly running and ZoneAlarm) and nothing, so guess I'm ok.

Anything else one should check? Thanks for the heads-up.
