IMHO, Intel would be better off dropping the P4 line and basing future development on the Dothan processor. This is just a suspicion, but I like the Dothan design much better and if Intel focussed on improving the performance of this processor then it would compete well with the fastest P4s and Xeons. A little cache here, some 64-bit registers there and this processor could really be something. Actually, I see that Dothan should come with 2MB cache, which should be enough for all but Xeon type uses.
Then maybe they wouldn't be forced into the exotic cooling designs which are now being foisted on the world. I like the new case layout of the BTX design, but the necessity for a wind hood over the processor is an abomination.
