It clears up your reasoning a great deal. I still disagree with Gary's stated comments about how short selling works, and I think the idea that our entire economy is being threatened by short sellers is rather fantastic:

I got involved in this discussion a few days ago because of the connection being made between patriotism and a shorting ban. In my opinion, there are plenty of other ways to be expressing our patriotism ( through charitable donations and hands-on good works) on the eve of war. Luckily, as Americans, we all have the freedom to express our opinions and spend our resources basically the way we want to. I wish you well on your endeavors.
