Just so I understand, when you say "criminal", you do not mean "illegal", is this right?
"To borrow against my position to sell it before I feel it should sold and thus use my position as collateral for their
gain is wrong."
When a short sale is initiated, the person who is shorting opens his/her position by borrowing a number of shares of stock from a pool of shares. That person is not targeting the shares of another retail owner. Most likely, the shares being borrowed are owned by by a commercial house.
No one is "selling" anyone's shares here, Gary. This is an untruth.
There is NO "sell it before I feel it should be sold". To close the transaction, the person who initiated the short must BUY an equal amount of shares, from the same pool of shares that is on the market. If the trade is profitable, the "buy to close" shares are lower in price and the trader keeps the difference. If the trade is unprofitable, the "buy to close" shares are higher in price and the trader is out the difference.
In order to sell shares short, a trader must have a significant amount of margin power available to him or her in his/her account, as short selling is riskier than trading from the long side.
My understanding of shorting WRT stocks is that it cannot be done with stocks that are less than $5 per share in value. This, by definition, includes penny stocks.
Again, please provide a link to any business press piece that describes short selling as wrong and/or unhealthy for the stock market. You made this claim two days ago and I've asked you a few times to back it up.
PS: I see that you feel "shorters and bashers" are getting upset with you. Do you think I am among them?
