Feline diabetes is quite common, due to the popularity of convenient, high-carbohydrate dry cat food diets. Vets are always looking for "revenue enhancers" and I believe that diagnostic cat litter is a great business model and the main reason I am a stockholder in PECB. The pregnancy one would be quite convenient for cat breeders (assuming it works... I haven't seen the data on the approach they are considering and I am a bit skeptical), however there are only about 5,000 cat breeders in the United States. Overseas, however, especially in the Scandinavian countries, cat breeding is a much more popular hobby. There are 3,000 cat breeders in the Netherlands alone, for example. PECB certainly has shown a desire to expand internationally.
I'd love to see PECB tackle the epidemic of feline diabetes from two fronts: a microwavable, gourmet diet that is low in carbohydrates AND a cat litter for monitoring the disease.
