One may have heard the saying:
"You don't have to lift the sewer cap to know what's in the sewer."
I for one believe that statement. I believe there are absolutes, right and wrong.
Example: I remember when the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ" came out. I read part of the script and was well aware that this was a movie that I did not need to see, as it was clearly a false depiction of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
On we go: so years later, and now having one 11 year old daughter, the Harry Potter movies come out. At first I was on board after reading up on the movies.
I decided to watch one of the movies myself, and found it, for the most part, to be harmless, as long as one educates their children about things like the occult, wizardry etc.
This movie to me is fun and entertaining. Is it perfect for children...NO, and that is where the parent becomes involved.
I am about as conservative a Christian as they come, and I am sure I will get flack for this, but I cannot shield my daughter from this world, I have to teach her, correct and rebuke her (II Timothy 3:16) and let her know that the things of this world are evil and dangerous, and to not love the things of this world or anything in the world (1 John 2:15-16)
This movie can be harmful to some children that may become involved in the occult, or watch too many horror movies, or does not pray, does not love Jesus, and is not saved.
So, why exspose her to it in the first place? Was my decision after screening movie, going to movie with her and explaining things to her and teaching her, pointing out any problem areas etc etc etc.
Like father like daughter, she is careful and scrutinizes things, is prudent and mature as an 11 year old can be in this world. I am preparing her for what is to come.
Happy Easter
