The prices were high for a long time and it made no difference to falling margins as the more expensive parts just stopped selling in light of the cheaper competition.

It's their choice if they want to make sure all their processors are in line with Intel's price/performance. My point was that they could lessen their price/performance advantage without risking all their market share, and that there's probably a better ASP*volume product with much better ASP and slightly lower volume, and that this would lead to higher revenues at the cost of some market share.
