My hardware store in Atlanta had a record day Friday. Got excited and beefed up a little for Saturday. I got pre-empted by a Georgia- Georgia Tech football game and had one of my slower Saturdays of the year.
One thing that I think retailers will have to contend with is lower margins. Ace ran a one-day sale Friday. That sale knocked 10 points off my gross profit margin for the day. Looking at the near give-aways that many of these stores were offering I can see why many retailers were packed. Be interesting to see what WMT's week sales are. I wasn't too impressed with Friday's figures.
