As we move closer to galactic center and along the galactic plane, dark matter is more prevelent as are anomalous energies.
Geo-historically, it is when we are in this vicinity that things DO happen, just as they are beginning to even now.
Don't forget the Mayans had the most accurate astronomical calendar ever, to date.
It maps cycles to the date. That IS its significance.
