al44: Carroll County is a Republican enclave in Central Maryland. The only one. My State personal income taxes are horrendous.
My goal is to move to Florida early in 2027, and live there for 6 months a year, basically doing the snowbird routine.
For the past two years, my effective State tax rate is 10 percent. And on top of that my property taxes are high, and I don't exactly live in a mansion or even a McMansion. I live in a modest house.
And by the way, the gerrymander that happened here years ago was criminal. We now have one Republican Congression, Andy Harris on Maryland's Eastern Shore, and they want to do another gerrymander to break up that district.
The problem here is that the State is 28 percent black, and black people tend to vote the straight Democratic ticket. We have the largest black caucus in the country. And we have lots of ignorant white liberals in Central Maryland.
Finally, as regards this being a sanctuary State, roofers and lawn-service companies have fewer people. Illegals have fled.
Taxes are driving people out.
