Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed what he called a “powerful strike on the largest petrochemical facility in Iran,” which he said accounts for half of the country’s petrochemical production.

Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani said there would be “no immunity” for Iran as the diplomatic push continues.

Earlier in the day, the IRGC said Gen. Majid Khademi, its intelligence chief, had been killed in Iran. It did not say where.

Katz said Khademi was killed in an Israeli strike.

“Iran’s leaders live with the sense that they are targets. We will continue hunting them down one by one,” he said.

On March 25, The New York Times, citing diplomatic sources, reported that the United States had sent Iran a 15-point plan through Pakistan to end the war in the Middle East. The sources said the plan broadly addresses Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs.

Iran put forward its own ceasefire proposal, demanding military reparations while retaining sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

On March 26, President Donald Trump said he had postponed strikes on Iran’s energy sector for 10 days at Tehran’s request — until Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

On March 31, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Tehran and Washington were exchanging messages both directly and through intermediaries. He said that did not mean formal negotiations had begun.

On April 5, Trump issued a new ultimatum to Iran, giving Tehran 48 hours to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He threatened strikes on Iran’s power plants and bridges if no deal is reached.

Tehran responded by saying that if the United States launches further strikes on Iran’s infrastructure, “the gates of hell” will open for the United States and Israel. CNN reported that Iran said it would fully reopen the strait only after the country is compensated for its financial losses from the war.

On April 6, Axios reported that the United States and Iran were discussing through intermediaries the terms of a potential 45-day ceasefire that could lead to an end to the war.
