I believe our Sheikh's lineage is sound, but there are so many Al Thani's. I believe our Sheikh is one of the younger lower level Sheikhs. I am not saying I don't believe he has any status at all or that he's not trying to make a name for himself though.
Perhaps the guy pictured is a cousin of our Sheikh's father or something along those lines. It isn't our Sheikh though.
