Everyone knows that except desperate hater’s lol
“Carbon fiber does not biodegrade and is expected to persist in the environment for thousands of years. The material itself—composed of carbon graphite—is chemically inert and resistant to natural degradation. While it may slowly break down under extreme conditions like prolonged exposure to UV radiation or abrasion, this process is exceptionally slow and does not constitute true biodegradation.
The resin matrix (typically epoxy) that binds carbon fibers together is also highly resistant to decomposition. Studies indicate that carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) waste in landfills degrades by less than 1% over 100 years and would take 60,000 years to degrade by 26%. Incineration produces significant CO2 emissions—over 2,000 kg per ton of CFRP—making it environmentally problematic.
Although carbon fiber itself lasts virtually forever, its performance over time depends on the resin matrix, which can degrade due to UV exposure, moisture, and thermal cycling. However, this is not biodegradation but rather chemical or mechanical degradation of the composite. “
