So, as usual, problem posed solutions described. Nothing vague or ambiguous from Google or Perplexity. Face it, you're not comfortable with complexity which leads you in turn to jump to conclusions and infer nefarious, secretive, motives from AI companies.
Google AI: In summary, AI systems can and are being audited, but achieving a high level of auditability requires intentional design choices, robust documentation practices, and specialized expertise.
That summary is much the same as Perplexity's conclusion.
AI is auditable to varying degrees, but significant challenges persist due to technical opacity and the "black box" nature of many models, making full auditability difficult without embedded governance and transparency measures.[1][2][3]
