Again - it left the private sector to lend - but provided cash and more cash by buying up those private sector mortgages and bundling them into variations of bonds to sell. It works - until banks go rogue
Note - at time of depression - there was not a large middle class and few owned houses to live in. AND most mortgages were five year or ten year mortgages with a cliff if you could not pay it off in 5 or 10 years or somehow refinance. Fannie Mae was the reason banks could move to longer term (30) year mortgages as the bank no longer sat on paper instead of cash.
That ad is cool - even if freeing F and F would not likely make housing more prevalent ---- however the historical taking of our company needs to be righted with payment
