Bam-1 Alpha market

Referring to the silk product as BAM-1 or BAM1-A is incorrect. They both produce what KT calls Dragon Silk. It's like referring to mundane silk as 'Bombyx Mori' just because it came from a Bombyx Mori moth. If they are going to use double hybrids, eventually, they will probably be crossing BAM1-A with WAM-1(or whatever they decide to name it) but the resultant spider silk would still be Dragon Silk with the same type of spidroin as the original Dragon Silk worms. Hopefully your production guesstimations are close to correct, but I wouldn't bet any money on it.

"From everything we have learned (which isn't nearly enough), KBLB will NOT be selling spider silk. Spider silk is made from the protein spidroin. It's a single strand without any substantial coating. Silkworm silk is made from a different protein, fibroin."

taken from kblb website which looks to have been recently updated:

"These recombinant spider silk fibers are composed of a unique combination of spider silk protein and silkworm silk protein."

Material Toughness [3] Tensile Strength [4] Weight [5]

Dragline spider silk 120,000-160,000 1,100-2,900 1.18-1.36
Kevlar® 30,000-50,000 2,600-4,100 1.44
Steel 2,000-6,000 300-2,000 7.84

The Company has conducted mechanical stress analysis testing on numerous select samples of BAM-1 recombinant spider silk, demonstrating strength at or exceeding 5 times the strength of hot-rolled steel. The Company is now scaling up production and commercialization of BAM-1 recombinant spider silk."

“Bam-1 Alpha will be producing fibroin proteins encased in sericin.”

That is just worm silk…

“Fibers can be treated to improve their resistance to folding, bending, and shear forces.”

And where does genetic modifications come into play…just a smokescreen?…not really happening?…even though Kim specifically states there is spider protein in their silk?…
