LOL "Walk-in"? More like "shimmy- down". There's no room to walk in a 3 foot wide closet once clothes are hung in there. It's more like1 foot maximum. That's going to change.
I also beg to differ on the shelving space. There's a lot of different things I can do, depending on the height I hang the closet rod at. 8 or even 16 feet worth of open shelving is a lot of room when the shelves are 16 inches deep.
Remember, I'm a guy too. I don't have 20 pairs of shoes and a dozen evening gowns to store. I'll never have enough clothes to fill the rack as it is so I could just shorten the rod and build a small shelving unit in there from floor up, to go along with the top shelf.
I watched a guy on you tube and learned everything I need to know. ;-)
