I think win 11 has made it difficult to set a default browser. ms has lightened up on the forcing of edge due to monopoly rules, but making it hard usually means hiding what you can do as a user. Just have to research it more. Fire fox using setting (the hamburger upper right) then general > 'always check if firefox is your default browser', which should ask questions which browser you want to use.

One thing you can do is go to win11 settings> Apps and Features and look for edge browser and uninstall it. It should not effect the computer at all and make it easier to have any other browser your default.
Edge IMO is a horrible browser for its tracking and constant nags for the ms store and such.
The city I worked for even uninstalled edge in all it's employees computers. They gave a choice of two browsers they would install for you. Of course, a city monitors all employee computers 24/7. Anyone thinking they could do off duty stuff or nefarious surfing is a fool.

Again, read up on edge before you act. At the least to find out how to remove it as default.

It sounds like you don’t do much on the computer so go for the cheapest one. You don’t need much memory or anything fancy. I think there’s a 12 month warranty on any new computer no matter which one you choose.
