It's easy to associate Hollywood with megawatt stars like Leonardo DiCaprio or Margot Robbie, but the middle-class gig workers who operate the cameras, design the costumes and cater the sets are struggling. The entertainment industry still hasn't recovered from dual strikes that ended two years ago, The Wall Street Journal reports, with 42,000 jobs vanishing between 2022 and 2024. The 100,000 remaining laborers are fighting for work on fewer big-budget movies and TV shows as studios abandon the quantity model that fueled the rise of streaming to pursue higher profits.
