Simple it's a wedge to make you subscribe or pay. Like keeping the search feature almost unusable here.

Don't do substack so I don't know if they don't allow a right click to copy things. You can drag with the left mouse button down until you reach the other page posting field then let go.

Also most browsers let you right click the tab itself and select "open in new window". Firefox is 'right click on tab' > move tab > move to new window. You can also grab the tab left mouse and slide it off the browser - it makes a new window.
