Bessent is trying to maximize the returns for the poor, downtrodden taxpayers. Oh, I forgot! The poor, downtrodden lot are the shareholders, not the taxpayers. So Bessent is trying to strip the last few threads off our bolt and, all the while, completely forgetting that shareholders are also taxpayers; a few large at that.
