He likely is stepping down so they can plug someone else in to solidify a merger or acquisition.

Chapman stepped down and de Masi is now Chairman of the Board. Seems like a good move, not a destabilizing decision.

Chapman took the company as far as he could. De Masi will take it to the next level, so he needs control of the board, to help execute his vision.

So far, he is off to a good start with key acquisitions and new developments.
