It was actually that commie, Michael Bloomberg's original idea. When there are food deserts around the state, and no fancy grocery chain is willing to open one of their expensive rip-off stores because there's no money to be made, it makes great sense for the state to open up an affordable one so poor people can buy something to eat other than McDonald's french fries. Don't worry berg, Mandami doesn't want NY to go into the grocery business.
