LOL I had those up in Michigan poking at the dead trees on the property behind my house. Couple raccoons too, those little bastards are really quite good climbers and know how to find their way around.
My place down there isn't really surrounded by woods per se. There's a large cattle farm behind us there so it's mostly open meadows nearby. I have more trees close by up here than I will down there but a short drive will get me back to the forest.
The way the weather is changing around here right now, I leave the windows open most of the time and there's some pecker close by because I can hear it in the mornings. I just don't know where it's at yet. Listening to that and the rest of the birds chirping at 4 AM is usually my wake up call. The next people who own this place are going to freak out when my boy "rocking robin" appears on the sill, asking for a snack.
My mom has feeders out of her side door so kitty will be able to shift his focus once he becomes a country cat. We also have a covered porch so I'll be able to take him out on a leash to really get his freak on. I can't have feeders around here because these city squirrels are relentless. They have a kinder attitude out there and don't mess with the feeders.
