Avoid stoats, too. They're the same as ermines. And they're not very nice. Much smaller than ferrets.

You should definitely stick with a nice ferret. It'll live longer, too.

Needless to say, you could also get a pair of rats. They're happier in couples. Need a big cage, and to be let out daily. They're very affectionate, with each other and with people.

You should get some.
