Derf, >> what does Warren know <<
He obviously knows way more than I do. Of the 60 individual stocks I own, 17 are Berkshire holdings, and numerous others are former Berkshire holdings. But thinking about the other 40 or so stocks, I frequently wonder why doesn't Buffett own these? Some are too small for Berkshire, since he's forced to own mostly large caps. And some are not undervalued enough at current prices to interest Buffett. But it's always a nagging feeling to know that Buffett has passed on owning these stocks. What have I missed??
Buffett famously said that diversification is for people who don't know what they are doing. But that describes most of us small fry investors -- we know just enough to be dangerous, lol. Ideally I'd like to stick with the S+P 500, but it's too easy to sell, so the idea I came up with is to have so many solid individual stocks that its too cumbersome to sell. That's one way to ensure buy / hold anyway :o) But whatever works. You seem to be doing fine with your investment strategies, and have single positions bigger than my entire stock allocation, so it must be working :o)
