Was a bonza beauty, Peg, This Crikey - Albanese celebrates crushing victory, as decimated Libs ask ‘where to now?’
" Washington Post... The ALP and Anthony Albanese strode comfortably to a win for the ages in last night’s vote count, while Peter Dutton’s defeat in Dickson leaves the Liberal Party leaderless and completely at sea.

So, for a quick ending, let’s take a look at the international reaction to last night’s historic events.
Sir Keir Starmer has congratulated Albanese on his win, saying: “The UK and Australia are as close as ever — and we will continue to work together to deliver a brighter future for working people in both of our countries.” Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, also offered her congratulations, stating: “Europeans and Australians are not just friends — we’re mates. Let us seize this moment of stability to deepen our cooperation.” (At the time of writing, a certain US president hadn’t offered up anything.)
The international media all focused on Albanese’s “comeback” and attempted to link Dutton’s performance to Donald Trump (while also trying to suggest similarities with the recent Canadian election):
* While the Associated Press .. https://apnews.com/article/australia-election-albanese-dutton-251063e866513dfa48b773fb4d6b0d29 .. declares: “Anthony Albanese claimed victory as the first Australian prime minister to clinch a second consecutive term in 21 years on Saturday and suggested his government had increased its majority by not modelling itself on US President Donald Trump’s administration.”
Perhaps I’ll leave the last word to the ABC’s outgoing election guru Antony Green, who said in his final piece to camera last night: “If I’m going out on an election, this is an extraordinary one to go out on.”
ON A LIGHTER NOTE…
If you’re in need of a break from the breathless political coverage, please enjoy this tale (or should that be tail?) of the tallest and shortest dogs in the world becoming good friends.
Initially their owners weren’t too sure, and admittedly, there were a few issues during the meeting. “Reggie shifted his leg on a couch to get comfortable, the leather moved and sent Pearl flying onto the floor. Later, Pearl tried to take Reggie’s toys, which were larger than she is,” the paper says.
However, overall, the pair got on great, with Reggie and Pearl roaming the former’s Idaho home together as well as walking to a nearby barn and sitting on a sofa together (it’s worth checking out the amazing pics).
Exhausted from their playdate, the day ended with the two friends asleep and snoring together.
