Tariffs protect the sovereignty of the US and the US Autoworkers who have been decimated by cheap labor in Canada and Mexico. Mexico can do what they want but they are not going to be able to sell cheap autos in the US with Trump in the White House. Yes Mexico - has not paid for the Wall so Trump was wrong about that one - he could be tougher on Mexico but unfortunately we get a lot of produce from Mexico and Trump has had to eat his words to keep food prices low. Trump actually has been quite congenial with Mexico and the Mexican President has done a good job not escalating things like Trudeau did with Canada. The Canadian leadership has really made some strategic blunders.
