Dew, I respectfully believe you are missing the true thrust of this historical moment. You may remember I gently suggested that you were overly optimistic in your assessment that RFK was not going to be appointed as Secretary of HHS. It's fundamentally important to see that, love them or hate them, MAGA is a fascist movement. For 100 years, it's been a truism that the contempt for science is one of the hallmarks of fascism. Consolidation of power, destruction of oversight and checks and balances are the defining motors of what is going to happen in the next year or so. What that means in the fine details is yet to be seen, but it's safe to say that unrestrained corruption will be at the center of it and loyalty and financial contributions to the Dear Leader will play a larger role than you are anticipating. In the next pandemic or other public health crisis scapegoating and lies - not logic and clinical trials - will be the expected response from those in charge, with predictable results. As Adam Feuerstien said, we are about to enter the darkest of places; I would only add that it won't be limited to biotech and pharma.

Dew, if recollection serves. You were fairly confident that GOP senators would not confirm RFK Jr's nomination and here we are. You now predict things will be better a year from now for the FDA, I think I will take the opposite side of that bet. If you support and voted for Trump, then I suppose the perspective are that things are getting better real fast and it will even be better a year from now for everything, including constitutional rights.

I think it will be important to see who fills the post before drawing conclusions. A journalist is in the business of getting clicks so will jump at the chance to sensationalize a headline.

I agree that this will be bad.

Fire the people who do IT, who do communications, people in charge of critical programs?

If you don’t let people know what could be a problem and how to prevent it, then it makes it more likely they’ll have a problem. What goes around, comes around.

This will be very bad. Not everyone is a billionaire who can afford their own hospital, let alone a concierge doctor.

Eliminating USAID and cutting back on the CDC just means that new and old infections that exist worldwide will just come back to bite us in the US of A the next time someone hops on a jet plane. Cutting back on global trade via tariffs doesn’t mean eliminating global travel.

re FDA and bios

It's been one month since your post. XBI is up a bit over 1% since then while the S&P is down just under 1% as I type
We still don't know whether the current downsized FDA is good or bad for the industry, or good for some and bad for others (as might be the case with a lower bar for approval where there is more competition for existing products but easier to cross the finish line and reach the market). But it certainly seems it was, and probably still is, too soon to know for sure and jump to any conclusions good or bad yet
