Yes they had to be deployed for the "remain in Mexico" stuff, which was more of a reaction to the Pandemic than anything else. They have been there ever since, the only difference now being that they have a new President who is actually making them do their jobs. Those numbers were reflected in the sharp drop in crossings in '23-'24.

It also had a lot to do with the app that made asylum seekers apply at home before they took their journey. They still had to wait in line but they did it from wherever they lived instead of waiting their turn here. Then, if their number got called, they could just come through an established port of entry. The racist in chief trashed that on day one.

We're not out of the woods yet. He's up there saying that we don't need to rely on Canadian and Mexican Agriculture because our farms are the greatest. That would be all fine and good but he's deporting all the farm workers along with the folks who process the meat, fruit and vegetables. There's reports of crops already rotting on the vine because the workers are afraid to leave where they live to go to work. I don't see all the white guys lined up in droves to fill those jobs anytime soon.

Housing has the same problem and it's also trickling down to the service industry. Yet everyone was ranting and raving that undocumented people were taking their jobs and I sure as hell don't see any purebreds running down to fill the gaps.
