I'm still just going through the paces but I discovered something about myself when I canvassed for the last election. I had never gone door to door before and I was petrified before I started, asking myself, "dude,what have you gotten yourself into now"? Then somehow after the third or fourth conversation, everything just kind of flowed out of me and I was hooked.
I knew I needed to do that and much more from then on. The PAC that we were canvassing for hooked me up with the party directly and now I'm going to meetings and sharing ideas with everyone. I should have done this years ago but I didn't even join AA back then because of my stage fright. I turned out just fine and learned that I don't have to be three sheets to the wind to get all chatty with strangers. I just needed to be forced into that situation to prove it to myself.
I'm just not going to sit idly by and watch this country go to hell. I'm only a couple months in so I still have a bit to learn about the nuts and bolts that are tightened in the background but I've been immersed in this stuff for so long on the outside that the transition seems natural enough and I have a lot of steam to blow.
