Mikj-Re: Trying again.
Interesting article. I for one have no problem with registering and tracking where the guns are and who has them, as long as they don't interfere with my right to purchase and carry concealed, I'm game. To think that any amount of legislation is going to keep guns out of the hands of the serious criminal on the other hand is ludicrous. If the feds would start enforcing the laws already on the books, the number of gun crimes could be drastically reduced. What good are laws if they are not enforced? What good are the enforcement agencies if we can't provide the resources needed for them to opperate effectively? It seems to always come back to the role of the federal govt. and taxes doesn't it?
Draconian as it may sound, the most effective way to fight crime in your neighborhood would be a little old west vigilanteism. Citizens unrestricted by govt. administering punishment as they see fit. Yikes, are we being forced to the doorstep of combating anarchy with organized anarchy? Oxymoronical perhaps, but when govt is failing to address the safety and well being of the citizenry,at what point, if ever, do the citizens unite and resolve issues without waiting for big brother to get it's finger out of it's ass and do something. If they'd spend the time and resources going after the serious criminals that they spend pursuing and incarcerating petty pot offenders we could see a noticeable difference in the crime stats, post haste.
