I think they probably did speak to voting officials in the swing states, and were convinced by what they were told.

For example, yesterday Bob Casey, who was running in the Pennsylvania Senate race, conceded to Dave McCormick. He must have had information that the rest of us didn't have, because the recount wasn't even finished yet.
