Yes. I think is was more of an attitude. They played into the hype but didn't cut force as much as cash. It still played out though in some areas unfortunately. It was a bad time. The statistics don't lie though...and if criminals see an advantage...they are going to pursue it. All in all....take what you can get...:



The defund the police narrative in some jurisdictions and the insanity via New York City bail kill (https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/facts-bail-reform-new-york-how-pretrial-detention-and-release-works-now) did not help the situation. Now those same jurisdictions reveresed course and increased funding.

Again...2020 was not a good year for anybody. Criminals took advantage as much as possible. The main reason for the drop in crime was the incarceration rate:
