Ok, OK, abort also has the meaning of cease and is used in many circumstances -- many an airplane pilot has responded to the command to abort a takeoff roll --
BUT
In discussing the abortion issue we are talking about a woman terminating a pregnancy because a child is not wanted
AND
a miscarriage is the termination of a pregnancy when a child is wanted.

I guess they didn’t know whether you wanted the child— or not
