An Israeli air strike has hit a school building sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza City, killing more than 70 people, according to the director of a hospital.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that the al-Taba’een school was being used by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants, with around 20 fighters operating from there. Hamas denies this accusation.
Earlier reports suggested the death toll was in the dozens, with Hamas-run health authorities and civil defense agencies putting the numbers between 60 and 90.
