The speed of a bullet from a semi-automatic rifle is over 2500 ft/s and will go through human flesh like tissue paper and the object will hardly move if it is say, an earlobe hanging out enough. If you were looking directly at him close up you may not even catch the ear move hardly at all.
Check out a vid channel called 'slo-mo guys' or similar. They have all sorts of ballistics going through stuff.
