Known as the 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey, the study was conducted by a group of leading experts specializing in the American presidency — including the current and recent members of the Presidents and Executive Politics Section of the American Political Science Association .. https://www.apsanet.org/About/About-APSA .
The survey, which took place from November 15 to December 31, asked respondents to rate each president on a scale of 0-100 for their overall greatness, with 0=failure, 50=average, and 100=great. The ratings for each president were calculated and ranked them from highest average to lowest.
According to the report, President Abraham Lincoln is the greatest U.S. President of all time, with a 93.87% rating.
Significant changes in the 2024 ranking include Franklin Delano Roosevelt advancing to the second position from third place in 2023, while Dwight Eisenhower dropped to eighth from sixth.
At the lower end of the rankings, there’s relatively little change. Donald Trump occupies the lowest position with a rating of 10.92, followed by James Buchanan (16.71), Andrew Johnson (21.56), Franklin Pierce (24.6), William Henry Harrison (26.01), and Warren Harding (27.76).
However, there emerged partisanship differenced in the evaluations of former President Obama and President Biden. On average, Democratic respondents positioned them at sixth and 13th place, whereas Republicans rated them at 15th and 30th place, respectively.
