France, like some other European countries, is turning to authoritarians. Even fascists. Marine le Pen has alway taken a portion of the vote there, but she's not making significant inroads. I'm sure your hero's applauding, to the extent that he's able to understand what's going on.

Fascism and authoritarianism should worry you much more than a bad debate night by the candidate who opposes that stuff.
