Due to school overcrowding in the 1960s, the first graders in my neighborhood attended a two room schoolhouse that was built in the early part of the century. The bathrooms were in the basement. Once or twice during the year there was an "air raid drill" and all the students filed into the basement bathrooms where we would supposedly be safe from a bombing - nuclear or otherwise.
