The Dems deny the obvious (border crisis) too.

Untrue. For more than 10 years, the Dems have realized the need for comprehensive immigration reform, and when it was possible, they've collaborated with the Republicans on possible plans. They came close when McCain was part of the effort, but in the end it never made it into law.

Immigration isn't a problem that affects me, but I can understand that something needs to be done. But it's not a question of building more wall, or sending in more men with guns. It's a great deal more complicated than that.

-- These people are crossing our border out of the kind of desperation that makes them feel it's worthwhile literally to risk their own lives, and the lives of their children.

-- For some, that desperation is economic; for others--the ones that may qualify for asylum--it's political. Their lives were also at risk in their home countries.

Given that, I find it appalling that, led by Trumpty since 2015, the Republicans have engaged in a nonstop campaign to demonize those people. That is wrong. Something needs to be done about the causes of the problem. We can't entirely eliminate them, but we can try. Biden has been working with the Mexican government, and with Central American governments, to make improvements that will encourage prospective undocumented immigrants to stay at home.

That only makes sense. It also makes sense to collaborate with those governments, especially Mexico, to stop the crime that drives many from their homes. And that means going after the drug cartels, and persuading Mexican authorities to do the same.

Unfortunately, as the climate crisis gets worse, all of the above will get worse, as people leave places that can no longer support the populations that once lived in them. We're not doing enough about that. Are the Republicans on board? Not many of them, I think, and none of the Trumpists.

There may also be some quick fixes. Many of the undocumented aliens--especially asylum-seekers--already here would like to work, but for some reason they can't do so for six months. And apparently they can't be contacted by state officials, only federal ones. Surely that can be dealt with. A lot of agricultural workers will be needed in the coming months.

But as we've seen with the Republicans' rejection of the bipartisan bill largely written by Senator Lankford on Trumpty's specific orders, ONLY the Dems are willing to play. Perhaps you should reword your comment.
