well I was vigilant about it because I could smell my own feet and that never happened to me before. I constantly washed them and put the salve on when I figured out what was going on so I guess I never got to the blister stage, but it still took about 6 months and a new pair of boots for it to go away. At the time when I used to piss standing up, I would take my foot and wipe the rim of the bowl with my sock to clean up the residuals so the mess would disappear.
My ex was convinced that's how I caught it. Fortunately, I don't play that game anymore.
