Yes, perhaps, but it has been in place for a dozen years, way before any purported sea change over last couple of years, which I also do not see much evidence of. In addition, fear and greed have been common drivers of stock price movement, by any measure or name one wishes to ascribe to it. As to the recent allocation of fear mongering being a right wing thing, I prefer to think of it as more coincident vs. causation, especially given the long standing use by the market in general and CNN over the last dozen years as the name of this indicator. I can guarantee you I have felt both of those emotions in spades having participated in the market for decades, and no better term/word applies in certain situations, and I can't blame R's for that!
